Discovering The Closest Beach To Bangkok

Having lived in Bangkok for several years it’s almost embarrassing to admit that I hadn’t visited the closest beach to my adopted home until January this year. If you’ve ever been to Bangkok you’ll know that it’s a busy city, full of traffic, with very little chance to chill out and enjoy some peace. I’m always looking forward to time out of the big city, even though I do love it here, because going to a place where you can sit by the sea and read a book is always welcome.

The reason for needing to get out of the city probably comes from me growing up in the countryside where there wasn’t a huge condo building in sight! I was sat at home one day just scrolling through my phone and I saw a city called Bangsaen, I then hoped on Google Maps and realised the place was only 75 minutes from my condo – it was a no brainer and I was on my way to the beach within 30 minutes.

It was a great decision to hop in a Grab Taxi which cost less than $30 USD, booking a hotel for $20 along the way and before I knew it I was sitting on a deck chair sipping a beer with the sound of the sea in the background. Bliss! It was at this moment I had to have a word with myself for not heading here sooner. All along the beach there are hundreds of deck chairs to sit down on for just $1 for the day and then plenty of food stalls to buy tasty seafood and beers from.

Another bonus for heading to Bangsaen is that you get out of the city and we all know that people outside big cities are much friendlier! Here everyone was so welcoming and greeted me with a smile, it reminded me of the reasons why I fell in love with this country. If you live in Bangkok or you’re there for a few days on holiday and you need an escape then I can’t recommend Bangsaen enough.

Now, I have to tell you that the beach isn’t as idyllic as the islands you’ll find in the south of the country and you may not want to take a dip, but the sunset is beautiful and you’ll forget all about the city! You could take over an hour going from one side of Bangkok to the other, so why not just take the same time heading to the beach? You won’t regret it.
